Since 2018, the Tanzanian government has introduced an electronic visa for visiting the country for tourism or business. To visit the island of Zanzibar, the procedure is the same. It allows you to enter the country once and stay for a maximum of 90 days. Most countries are eligible for this online application. Consular fees start à 44 €. The average waiting time is 7 days for urgent departures.

What are the eligibility criteria for a Tanzanian e-Visa?

1️⃣ Passport

Travellers must hold a passport that is still valid at least 6 months after the date of entry into Tanzania.

2️⃣ Current visa

You do not need to be in possession of a Tanzanian resident visa.

3️⃣ Location

You must not currently be in Tanzania with a valid visa, or with an extension to your visa.

Travel insurance for Zanzibar

Mandatory since October 2024

The Tanzanian government now requires medical insurance for travel to Zanzibar only, regardless of whether travellers also have their own insurance and regardless of the length of their stay in Zanzibar. You should check that you are not over-insured by travelling with several insurance policies.
The price depends on the age of the applicant:
free of charge for under-3s, 22 USD (19 €) for under-18s and 44 USD (39 €) for adults

For atrip to Tanzania or the island of Zanzibar, the Tanzania eVisa is compulsory for most nationalities.

Your electronic visa for Tanzania allows you to stay 90 days on site for 44 €excluding brokerage fees. With your Tanzania e-VisaYou can enter via several entry points, such as theJulius Nyerere airport (Dar es Salaam), Kilimanjaro airport, Abeid Amani Karume airport in Kisauni (Zanzibar), the Namanga and Tunduma land borders.

From January 2025, it will no longer be possible to obtain a Tanzania visa on arrival. We recommend that you online application at least 7 days before you arrive.

When should you travel to Tanzania?

In Tanzania and Zanzibar, the sun is always out! There is no ideal time to go to Tanzania, but if you want to avoid the tourist crowds, it's best to avoid the Christmas holidays, as well as the summer holidays (July-August).

This magical place will offer you many exceptional and breathtaking landscapes. Ngorongoro Park is considered one of the most beautiful parks in Tanzania to go on a safari.

A historic district of Zanzibar, Stone Town is a village of unique architecture, colourful markets and cobbled streets. If you visit Stone Town, you can easily head to Prison Island to admire the land tortoises.

Located in west Tanzania on the shores of Lake Tanganyika, Mahale National Park has many chimpanzees for you to photograph. Take a hot-air balloon flight over Serengeti Park and contemplate the beauty of the landscape from the air.
